Hi Glenn, I’m back (I’m sure you’ve been waiting on the edge of your seat :-) ). Sorry this took so long, I tried to post this from home but apparently I can no longer post from my home IP?? The article in TMMI is in issue #85, the publisher of the book is Compendium, it is their “Modeling Manual 22” on the Panther, ISBN # 1 902579 41 0. In the articles he definitely refers to the technique as drybrushing, and from the description I think it is what we would call “good ‘ole” drybrushing. Here is a very short quote from the article in TMMI:
“Next step, I take a medium stiff brush, mix ‘desert yellow’ and flesh (Humbrol), and apply to the brush. I then wipe off most of the paint on a towel, and all areas are then very lightly drybrushed to mute and fade down all the colours and make them more uniform and in harmony with each other (this includes also all decals as well).”
He then goes on and talks about how important it is to not have too much or too little paint on the brush, and also to use a very light touch. Next he uses pin washes repeated by more drybrushing, and the “process is repeated several times” I found both articles to be very interesting and for me at least they made the book and mag well worth the purchase.
Best,
Mike |
