| Subject: | Water-based or oil-based washes? | |

From what I've read, it seems most people prefer to use oil-based washes. Is that a quality issue, or because most of you are using acrylic base colors?
I have a Tamiya KV-1 that I slapped together to practice weathering. Since air brushes terrify me (I have a lot more experience with rattle-cans from doing stock cars - you go with what you know), I painted it using Tamiya's NATO Green via spray can. Since this is an oil-based paint, I guess that means I'm limited to using water-based washes? Are there other options? What I'd like to do is lighten the green overall, to fade it, in addition to adding dirt, grime, etc. Would this be better done via dry-brush?
Any suggestions are welcome. |
