Hi Ken,

Using a nearly whole Tamiya 10ml jar for just one model really is way too much.
I can only join the back of the queue in asking did you use any thinner at all and if so at what ratio?

I too use a single action 'brush (Paasche) and recently did an XF63 basecoat on -in sequence- a Dragon Tiger 1 Early; a Dragon FlaK 88mm; a Tamiya StuG III-B....and still have about 20% left in the 10 cc jar.

With a good working airbrush + compressor combination you should be able to get at least a mix ratio of 50% paint with 50% thinner for very good results.
Try to avoid to cover your model in one go, two or more layers of properly thinned paint gives a much better looking effect eg much more of the small detail of the kit will be visible.

The question of how many layers has everything to do with the colour of the plastic in your kit. You can imagine that if you want to brush Panzer Yellow on a dark gray plastic you need more paint than brushing the same yellow on eg. a kit in Tamiya's famous Pumpkin coloured plastic to achieve the same desired tone.

I really hope the advice from all contributors will help you to economize on your paint.

Happy modelling
Jerry
