Ken,
I'd say that the pressure from the compressor is way too high. If you're getting paint runs closer than 20 cm than the pressure is WAY too high. I think you may need to get a pressure regulator. You may want to try canned air to see the difference.
I had a badger 200 but used canned air and never sprayed further than 4 inches.
