Hello,

It is pretty obvious that any brand recommend their own thinner of course.
However, I understand that is not exactly your question.

My experiences are only with my own Paasche HS single action airbrush and therefore may NOT be the same for other types of airbrush!!

Vallejo's own thinner is also very hard to get in the Netherlands so I have done a bit of experimenting.

-Vallejo Air with Tamiya thinner is not a good marriage. The paint dries even faster than with any other medium.

-Vallejo Air with plain tapwater with a few drops of detergent gives better results than with Tamiya Thinner. Even so I am not at all happy with the results. Splotchy, uneven coverage at any setting of paintflow/pressure. And Tamiya Thinner absolutely required to clean the airbrush parts after any paintsession.

-Several mixes of water/alcohol; also not very good.

Based on this I have decided for myself to use Tamiya acrylics plus Tamiya Thinner for my airbrush work and Vallejo for painting small details with a normal artists (hairy) brush.

But like I said, I guess a lot depends on what type and kind of airbrush you are using.

HTH and happy modelling
Jerry
