The CADPAT pattern was originally developed by a Alberta, Canada Firm for the Canadian Armed Forces I beleive if I remember the article I read right a couple of years ago. They spent several years developing the pattern and then showed it at a Military trade show in Europe. Withen six months several other companies had copied the pattern/idea and began marketing it as their own to both military and civillians. A copyright infringement suit followed and the offending companies had to settle up with the Canadian firm. Now I believe it said 2 or 3 companies are allowed to produce the uniforms under licence one being the firm supplying the U.S. Army.
