Depends on the model, but I like to build the lower hull complete and fit either styrene or metal tracks - glueing the shoes to the road wheels and rollers if any. When its all dried and (hopefully) solid I ease the unglued wheels, idlers, and track etc, off the axles as one assembly.
As I usually drill out the wheel mounts and chuck the road wheels on a length of sprue to grind the road surface this is easier than it may sound ;-)
The hull top can go on and be painted and weathered, and the seperately weathered track and wheel assemblies can go on later. A final dry brush and wash ties it all in together.
But I do more than my fair share of cussin' when the track assemblies come apart as they are bound to do! |
