There were two official paint schemes for the Afrika Korps, depending on period, and they were two-tone schemes (not always visible in photos due to dust). The third and final scheme was simply the new Dunkelgelb introduced in all theatres of operations in early 1943, though the Germans in Tunisia were receiving few new vehicles by then. Paint could deteriotate quickly in the field, particularly if it was applied to dirty or greasy surfaces in the field. Also, the DAK was at the end of a rather shaky supply line, so sometimes non-standard paint was used from Italian or captured Allied stocks.
