No FS34102 is not correct for any Vietnam era Army vehicle. Standard color was FS24087 semigloss Olive Drab. Same pigments as FS34087, but in a semigloss base, which "reads" darker. In addition, some divisional commanders in the postwar period ordered that black be added to the OD, simply because they liked the look, so different units ended up different colors. Best basic color for US Olive Drab is Tamiya. Add black if you wish, and overspray with a semigloss clear coat.
Model paint labeled FS34087 from other manufacturers are not matched to the same color chip--it was changed in 1967 to a lighter, warmer shade in the FS595 color book. This later FS34087 is correct only for helicopters. |
