I paint everything, and assemble then. so i can paint fast and easy with masks. that is why i prefer workable tracks (in my case friuls because i get them cheaper than kasten tracks).
when working with non working single links i put all wheels onto the axles without glueing, then i glue the track together and put it onto the wheels, align it and let it set....then (next day) i take it all of and paint the wheels and the assembled tracks, and put it carfully back onto the tank.
very easy but accurate.
