| It's always risky to judge color values from photos, given the vagaries of the film used, lens filters, age of the print and the uncertainties of four-color reproduction, but what the heck. The picture probably shows the second Afrika Korps scheme, RAL 7027 Sandgrau over RAL 8020 Gelbbraun. Since the Panzer III's are Ausf. N models with the short 75mm gun, that would place the photo in the latter stages of the campaign, which supports the supposition. This scheme came into use in May, 1942, and was in use until the end of the war in North Africa (though the few vehicles delivered in 1943 would have had the new Dunkelgelb base color). |
