Hi Paul, I think there is no evidence that USSR used primer their WW2 tanks. As mentioned above scratches were seen only in areas of shell and bullet hits and other serious abrasions due to the age of the machines. Of course areas of crew wear had bear oxidized steel (shiny brown) exposed as well. I would focus on dirt (i.e. paint wear/discoloration) and dusting effects rather then scratches on Russian armour. The scratches you do apply can (and should) be a variety of colors from brown to black to rust, to reflect different ages of the damage. No one can say you are wrong then. But really dust is much more important, I think. HTH, Dmitry
