"Stug Vor!" has photos of Karkov F8's- at that time (from my figuring)
most Stugs were delivered with dark yellow ("German Stug in WWII" has
1942 pictures of Stug F's from SA 210 in the Caucasus- these are all
dark yellow). This is long before the May 1943 "dunkelgelb order".
By comparing pictures of these Karkov Stugs with winter whitewash
pictures of Ausf. D-E's in 1941, where the base coat appears much
darker, I would guess dark yellow as the base coat- but it is only a
guess.
