Hi Konrad,
I can only relate my personal experience with tamiya flat base and gunze: DON'T.
I experimented with this mixture a few times on scrap styrene and discovered that, no matter what the mixing ratio, there was a tendency to "frost" upon drying.
I use tamiya and gunze paints almost exclusively, although the gunze paints do have a glossier finish (as you know) right out of the bottle. Thus, I use the Gunze paints "as is" from the bottle, thinned with alcohol, then after drying I airbrush a mixture of Future and tamiya flat base at the ratio of 3 parts Future to 1 part tamiya flat base. This give a tough, dead flat finish that will accept all manner of weathering, especially from pigments.
As an aside, I also find that gunze paints are a bit "tougher" finish-wise than tamiya; they seem more resistant to scratches, etc.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Ed |
