Hello Everyone,
My wife too complained a lot about the awful smell of laquer paints and thinner I used to use.
Mostly Hannant's XtraColour which are well stocked in nearby's Aviation Hobby Shop near Amsterdam airport.
A complete interior overhaul of my hobby room was a logical point in time to switch over to acrylics for me.
Since 2,5 years I am only using Tamiya acrylics with my Paasche airbrush with even better results than I ever had with laquer paints.
Acryl dries faster so less chance for dust particles to settle into the still wet paint which always was a problem here before.
For figure and detail painting (like eg on vehicle tools etc) I use Vallejo acrylics with a fine sable brush.
For thinners I use Tamiya's own thinner X-20A while Vallejo is thinned with plain tapwater with a few drops of liquid detergent.
Last week in the Netherlands we had a heatwave with temps running to 30º C. I noticed that during those days my Tamiya paint, thinned down to a ratio of 5 parts paint to 3 parts Thinner dried at least twice as fast as during normal cool Dutch days (15-20ºC).
During those extremely hot days the flat colours I used like XF-60 Panzer Yellow were still a bit workable, but X-18 Semi Gloss Black was nearly impossible to work with!
I would like to experience Gunze acrylics but sofar I have been unable to locate any store in the Netherlands that stock them. The availability of Gunze in W-Europe seems to be limited anyway and then the problem is that it is impossible for Gunze dealers to send them by post due to EG Dangerous Goods Restricions.
Any suggestions and/or help from others on acquiring Gunze is highly appreciated.
Happy Modelling
