Hi Shane,
The first tanks on Malta arrived on 10th Nov 1940. There were 4 Matilda MkII and 2 MkVIBs. The tanks were painted in rubble wall camouflage by painting close set creamish stone patches over the original dark green paint, leaving the latter to show as lines between the patches. The pattern closely mimics the appearance of the ancient rubble walls which criss-cross the island countryside.
In January of 1942, eight 2pdr armed A9 and A13 cruiser tanks were sent to reinforce the island in preparation for the expected Axis invasion (Op Herkules). I do not have any references as to their colour scheme.
I hope this helps.
