If if need to protect mating surfaces that must be glued. Use Humbrol's Maskol. Mr. Color's Mr. Masker, or equivalent.

I use a toothpick for application. Let dry and then paint. After the paint has dried, used the tip of a #11 blade to pull off the mask to expose nice clean plastic.
