in my opinion, which isn't worth much, i'd say there isn't going to be one color that'll cure all ills. i would think the black should show well enough on all the colors, you may want to fade the green to a lighter shade, same with the red-brown for the burnt umber wash. i personally enjoy the depth of color achieved by layers of different thin washes, so you could just give the model maybe a heavier wash of the burnt umber, which is still earthy, and then a lighter wash of the black, which is unnatural but will help fill out the shadows like you want.

or stuff your kit full of fire-crackers and sacrifice it to the paint gods.
