Hi Mark, Here in the uk we seem to have a number of primers to choose from. Halfords own brand acrylic primer, Gamesworkshop primer and my personal favorite, Hycote acrylic primer. All of these are available in grey/gray, white, black and red oxide colours.

Hope this is of some help, maybe the guys (and gals) in the rest of the world can help also.
