It was originally a hard edge pattern. I masked it with Tamiya masking tape. It took quite a bit of work. Then the initial frosting problem came along during the wash. I think I got Turpatine mixed in with my Turpenoid. Not only did I get frosting, I also got paint lifting, cracking, and bleaching! I went over the entire model again. This resulted in some areas being hard edge and some areas being tight edge. I think it looks pretty realistic. From my observations the hard edge/ soft edge debate is caused in part because of the far from perfect paint jobs hard edge painted vehicles received. Tight soft edges or worse can be found on vehicles that clearly have hard edges. I don't know but I suspect this is due to a number of factors including lackadaisical masking mat placement, free hand rework of areas that didn't meet specs, parts painted before installation (such as gun mantlets), and field touch-ups.
