Paul: is it likely that the German's were so well organized? I imagine that tanks were assigned to units after they left the production line, and perhaps even then there was an element of seat-of-the-pants allocation. Didn't weaponry flow to N.A. in a relatively haphazard--or spasmodic--way? The theater carried a low strategic priority, so my guess is that, up until Dec 42, they received whatever could be spared. Nothing that I know of was purpose-built for that theater (notwithstanding the various modifications that could be added at the last minute). I know nothing for certain on this--just speculating.
