| I haven't had any problems with enamels, but most nightmare stories occur at the detail wash stage, when an enamel or artists' oil color wash made with a fairly "hot" thinner is used to accent the detail. The track's exterior surfaces are protected by a layer of paint, but the wash penetrates the joints of the links, and reaches those delicate pins, which are of course, unpainted. They dissolve and the tracks fall apart. Avoid lacquer thinners for thinning paint, and use artists' watercolors for washes on the tracks and you should be okay. The tube watercolors offer pretty much the same colors as oil paints, and are better suited for washes than acrylics. |
