Ivory was used only in crew areas. The most likely colour for a German engine compartment is primer red.

However you must bear in mind that with the Panther and Tiger (at least), it was considered a normal event for the engine compartment to catch fire and be doused by an automatic fire extinguisher. You can imagine what that would do to the colour!
