I'm not sure if this helps or not...but here's a link that I've found to be valuable in understanding how the vehicle and organization were used.
From what I've seen most were Olive Drab - BUT-there were gray and also white vehicles...not to mention there was also an image of what appeared to be a whitewashed version serving near the Battle of the Bulge.

I've also attached an image of a scene I'd love to see done. I've thought of doing it myself many times.
