Interesting photos Paul. I have often thought that a real AFV in battle would be very prone to be dirty, but usually did not last long enough to experiance much paint fade or chipping and rust. I cant find it now, but I remember seeing a color photo of a Sherman going through an Italian village and it almost looked like a winter camo scheme. However it was summer and the tank was covered with road dust and debri dust from the various destroyed buildings. Most likely the tank itself hand not been in use for more than a few weeks at the very most. I have been leaning this way in my weathering of late, though I must admit not all that successfully, for example:
