Having spent years on AFV's in europe and V.N. _ the fuel caps are normally situated so that any fuel run-off is pretty immediate which only causes "dampness" in most cases and due to the heat, weather, environment, etc - You will usually find a darkened area near the fuel caps, and any run-off is usually darkened paint with sometimes a very lightly dampened streak (usually covered by dirt/dust, etc..
