I tried the Home Depot compressor after a puny no-tank airbrush compressor died on me. It was strong, sure, but loud as hell. This was fine in the old apartment, where I had a garage. I rigged up a portable air tank, also sourced from Home Depot parts, and would fill it in the garage and use the airbrush silently in the apartment. This all changed a couple years ago with a move, and that portable air tank was really useless once I had to fill it at the gas station. I ebayed a really lovely little SilAire, small tank (.4 gallon) but truly silent, which is important to me. I forget the thing is on and leave it live half the time, it only betrays itself when the pressure drops enough to trigger the pump, and that takes a long time to happen. I paid $120 for it, and I would heartily recommend it. Unless you are a carpenter or run a service garage and actually need to run air tools. In which case, you probably already have a serious commercial compressor anyway...

Best,

Adam
