Maybe it's a variation of the method as describe by Mig Jimenez when he describes scratches on 3 tone German camo.

He says correctly that the first layer removed from a scratch would reveal the dk yellow basecoat. If you were to portray a deeper scratch then you'd have the oxidized metal beneath but it would be good to show the dk yellow revealed around the metal (as in example 5).
Also newly scratched colors that don't get down to the metal may be lighter (example 3).
That being said, I find that egdes of equipment that are touched regularly would get DARKER due to the hand oils. Or just having the dust rubbed off the surface by hands and clothing and boots. |
