Taylor,
By 1944 Japanese armor would have been painted Olive Drab, Mahogany and Khaki. Supplies for Japanese troops deployed on the Pacific islands was poor and it is quite possible that Chi-Has on Saipan still were painted in early war schemes though probably quite weathered. Only late war Japanese armor came from the factory soft edged spray painted and these include the Type 1 Chi-He, Type 3 Chi-Nu and Type 3 Ho-Ni III. Spray schemes are rare though it is possible Japanese armor is usually hard edge. There were 31 Type 97 Chi-Ha tanks deployed on Saipan. Most of these tanks were knocked out on the June 17th night attack by Col. Hideki Goto.
