| Subject: | Rusty Mufflers...? | |
| Date: | Feb 26, 2007 |
| From: | Paul A. Owen | |
I was just thinking about the bright rusty colour we see on many modellers' models mufflers (say that three time fast).
Thinking about this I came up with the following:
The muffler gets dusty (or muddy), the heat from the muffler bakes the dust and mud onto the surface of the muffler. This would act as a protective coating that hides any rust that may have formed on the surface. Over time this buildup would thicken and harden to a dark patina. This is evident on your car's muffler.
So... I guess we should be painting our mufflers in a dark bumpy finish.
Does this sound realistic?
Paul. |
