Just backing up what Glenn said, steer clear of black for road tyres. Rubber isn't black at all, you would be better off using a gray mix. I've read a few articles by Steve Zagola (legend) and he sometimes sprays the entire running gear a brown/tan mix, and sprays his upper hull etc the base colour. Although this is a different technique than pre shading, when he finishes his detail painting and weathering, you can't argue with the results, they are superb. I have tried this technique in 1/72 and was happy with the result. Glenn's models are fantastic too, but he uses a different technique. I would like to know how he uses washed to paint items, I think I have an idea, but would like to know more. Glenn, can you expand?? Thats the fun of the hobby, trying new ideas to get different results. P.S. Steve Zagola often uses that dirty word dry brushing, and his models are still some of the best you can see I think!!!
