| Well, it all depends on your painting philosophy. Some prefer to start with the a near approximation of the authentic color (perhaps lightened for scale effect), and then add oversprays and drybrushing to simulate fading and dust. Others of the "Verlinden School" prefer to start with a color close to where they know they'll end up--Francois Verlinden used to start with most any old dull green for Olive Drab, as it would be totally transformed by the weathering anyway. AN 613 (a late war Army Air Corps color) is theoretically far too light and warm to depict fresh No. 9 OD, but could be fine as a starting point for a very dirty vehicle. For fresh OD No. 9, Tamiya's is a near dead match out of the bottle, though it should be lightened for scale effect. |
