Dave,

I had the same problem with an old tin of Matt Cote. Someone suggested I try a new batch, which turned out perfectly with exactly the same thinner ratio. Apparently many varnishes can go a bit glossy over time.

Maybe - if others have had the same experience - that could be the problem?
