Hello Clive,
Use the oven cleaner from Mr. Muscle. Just put the model in a sealable box (Tupperware eg) and spray the cleaner on. Put the box in a plastic bag for extra protection againt leaking, and leave it there for several hours. Dependent on the coat and time it's been on, you'll have to leave it in longer.
Remove the model from the box, be careful of fumes! Next rinse it under water. Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the model and remove all the grease.
Please note that PE will probably come apart, and aluminium barrels will probably be gone. Small plastic parts might disappear as well.
