Hi Damon

This is a question which kept generations of modellers busy. As You've probably read meanwhile it's hard to say what shade but 'green' as mentioned in the British Intelligence reports.
Actually we've got a statement of a veteran mentioning they took 'verde mimetico' from the Italian Regia Aeronautica (airforce) and mixed it with German Signalbraun.
the Question which shade of verde mimetico has to be answered because there have been four quite different shades 1, 2, 3 and 53192 (FS 34258, 34092, 34102, 34227).
Refering to the quote of 'pea green' I'd say 'verde mimetico 1' (FS 34258). This fits quite well with the posted picture.

I myself have another source. A few years ago I met the Producer of JSP Colours in Germany. He had talked with a Veteran who had actually painted the Tigers in question (i.e. the first ones arriving in Tunis).
The Veteran said he had used green color from stocks of a nearby Italian Air Force Base. The painstaking thing is he just said 'green'. He didn't specify his statement any further.

Concerning the other statements I'd say You've got the pieces of a puzzle and most of them fit together somehow and will give You a copletely new picture in the end.
I think most of the statements have some accuracy but there has to be figured out how all is related on the base of an accurate time schedule.
Maybe we will end up with nearly every single Tiger painted in a different shade or, as mentioned, even pattern.

The least probable color to be used will be US olive drab. I can't figure out where the Germans should have taken it from. And Germans taking colors in the first place when they needed weapons, ammunition, fuel, vehicles and medical supply much more urgently is hard to imagine.

I hope this will bu of some help to You.

Kindly Yours

Arun Bauer
