First thing to do as with any thing you want to paint, before you assemble them; wash them in warm soapy water. then rinse them to remove any soap residue. Next assemble them fully so you have a full loop. At this point you can prime them if you want, but I have never primed mine and have never had a problem. At this point what I do is get a small piece of large dowel (the size of a standard closet rod, available at almost any hardware/home improvement center) drape the loop of track over the dowel and begin spraying light, dry coats as you rotate the dowel in your hand(avoid soaking the track in paint) This will slowly feed the track around the dowel and you can get a good even coat of color on the whole run of links. After this coat drys pull one pin out, turn the run inside out and replace the pin and repeat the process again this time doing the inside of the track. This will get a good solid base for weathering, and will help keep from painting your hands by using a dowel rod that is about 18 inches long.
