A few weeks ago I had an Early Jagdpanther in the Gallery and I had several good comments and THANKS!! again to all. I did have a comment from a "Chris" saying good things about the build. But he was interested in knowing how or why I blackened the muzzel break saying that Germany used smokless gunpowder so he thought that painting the barrel end and or muzzel was incorrect. Me not being a tank veteran all I could do is draw on the physics and that I saw war time pictures of blackened muzzels. Chris provided pictures showing tanks without blackened barrels and asked me to provided some info. to back up my painting of the muzzels and ballel ends. I did not feel threatened by his challenge nore was that Chris's entent. And I did go back and look through alot of my books (and I have alot of books) And I found several pictures to back up his ideas as well as mine as to the barrel ends. So I opened up Tony Greenland's book on his Panzer modeles. And to me this is where the buck stops. And after looking over all of his collection and seeing that every one had a blacken to dark steel barrel end or muzzel.I have to say that here is a builder that gets thousands of dollars per build. What is the chance that Tony messed up on the muzzel breaks with all of his experince and reference mat. I don't know. But I will say that I think that there is enough evendence out there to hold up both ends of the muzzel break discussion. And that it is up to the modeler as to what he wonts to do cause I can't say that I'm right or wrong but I will lighting them up some like TG and make them a little more steel looking. Steve
