Most of the pictures I have seen sho to have clean muzzle breaks unless it was painted black. Rarely have I seen any soot covered muzzle breaks, but I am no expert, so I am sure it is possible. I usually put some black pastels on the end of my guns just for the visial effect, but try to keep it subtle as possible.
Well thats my two cents worth anyway :)
