I wouldnt buy that MIG stuff. It's turpenoid with some colour in it. Migth save time, but most certainly not money ...
A protective coat (satin or gloss) is not strictly necessary, but does make it easier to correct any errors, and makes the surface less 'spongey'. A matt absorbs more of the colour, so washes/filters will alter the colour more than you might want to.
