Going by the shadows under the hulls, it seems that the sun is almost directly above them. Shadows don't seem to extend in any direction, and are only directly under the tank. If it was a shadow on the muzzle, I'd expect the front plate and front side tracks to show some shadows as well. The tank behind it shows the same thing too. The faces of the crew are also too bright as well for a shadow on that side.

The one thing I'm not sure of, since I'm not a "Tiger Guy", is what the base color of these tanks should be. I can't spot a late from an early to save my life unless I see PzIII bins. They seem like they MAY have some zimmerit, and I believe these tanks are too late in production to be dark grey. So that rules out the whitewash just being blasted away from a dark grey muzzle. If they are dark yellow base color, then the muzzle is definitely darker than the paint should be.
