Glazing is the application of a transparent -thinned- layer of paint. When used for figure painting more than one layer is usually needed. As a general rule you will need to paint more glazes in bigger areas. Acrylic painting calls for the application of several increseangly lighter/darker glazes to get highlights and shadows.
This method is less intuitive for the beginner than oil painting but IMHO it allows for more precision, especially in smaller scenes. And itīs faster.
The single most important thing you should remember is TO UNLOAD THE EXCESS OF PAINT IN THE BRUSH BEFORE ACTUALLY TOUCHING THE FIGURE. This can be done in a cotton rag, old towell or T-shirt, etc. I personally prefer kitchen paper.
Better than a poor explanation you should read well some tutorial with photos.
