I use MM for final finish too. No problems.

Let me answer about MIG pigments and pastels. You will need to experiment with the process until you are comfortable with the results of "fixing" the pigments/pastels with a clear coat of your choice. Overall, using a clear coat will reduce the effect of weathering. In this manner, if you lightly weather a vehicle and then clear coat it, you efforts may disappear before your eyes. I have found that you have to over-weather just a bit to get a normal effect if you clear coat. And to further confuse you, some colors (not necessarily the darkest) come through with less reduced effect than others after clear coating.

So you need to find and old kit or some part with similar surface complexity (panel lines, nuts and bolts) and process it in the same manner as your primary model, including basecoat or primer. Experiment is the rule. Try several approaches.

Finally, on some kits, I leave the pigments/pastels unfixed. It does add to the dullness of the finish. But keep in mind, fingerprints are deadly to the finish and very unforgiving to remove.

Hope this helps.

John
