Craig, I use a Paasche with all metal parts, so I can't speak to the specifics of your AB, but one problem I've noticed repeatedly on mine is that the air jet nozzle will get a coating on it every once and a while. If your AB has one, check it carefully. Sometimes mine gets covered with a very thin, almost clear film of dried material that is awfully hard to see. When my air jet nozzle gets even a littl plugged, the irregular air flow produces the same result you describe, and no amount of thinning the paint or cleaning the paint tip will fix it, only cleaning the air jet nozzle.
