Hi Craig,
I also paint with Tamiya and use Isopropyl Alcohol (IA) to thin down the paint and find it works a treat. The consistency of IA is a lot thinner than the Tamiya thinner but provides an excellent finish. I typically mix 50% paint and 50% IA, a very thin consistency, and then lightly paint the model 2 - 3 times.
For what its worth I too used a Aztec airbrush but found them difficult to maintain. I'm not sure what your prior experience has been with Aztec airbrushes but for mine I found they gave inconsistent results after a while, even when I got new nozzles. I purchsed an Iwata airbrush a year ago and haven't had a problem since. Naturally I clean it religiously and thoroughly.
Anyway, hope this helps, good luck,
Mick |
