This has been brought up before, possibly on this
forum. There is a train of thought that the early
T-34 headlights were in fact civilian auto headlights
and as such would be black painted. If you look at
photos of early war T-34's they certainly DO appear
to be much darker than the tank body, difference in
surface texture notwithstanding. This idea appeals
to me, as it would be so like the Soviets to do
something like this.
