Hi Sean

What about the original pictures of Jagdtiger 305003 in 1944 in Mielau?
As far as I could see on these pictures in the Spielberger book, the tank carried such poles fixed between the lateral clamps on both sides.

By the way, did the Germans then have an aiming procedure for accurate long range fire that did work without these poles?
As far as it's known from the battle records of the Jagdtiger units, they were quite often used for artilleristic missions.

Therefore I think, the tools necessary for this kind of operations were carried at least on tanks like Sturmhaubitzen (assault howitzers) and the Jagdtiger, of course not on the outside, but aboard anyway.
