Hi Roy
Thanks for the hint. As I mentioned the pictures were made in Mielau, where a tank hunting school was based, so there were no field conditions.
As for the elevation, a rearward hill slope would do what the elevation gear of the tank can't.
Using Hillslopes for higher elevation could only act as a makeshift for shelling but not for accurate fire.
This leaves question of accuracy I have to admit. Furthermore I've found no evidence for my assumption of any equippment usable for indirect gunfire carried on assault guns/howitzers and its questionable whether it would've made sence, as these guns were only able to fire with a flat trajectoy.
This allows direct fire only and I agree with You completely concerning the aiming devices.
