Y.C., you could wait for the long promised camouflage book by the currently recognized experts on German armor, Or you could go to http://www.kajacircle.com/klimentbooks/books_whcc.htm for a book that is not so authoritative and does have a few easily discerned errors (mostly about vehicles brought to Aberdeen PG post war) but does have the advantage that all its color ssamples are based on preserved WW II items. Or you could use Tamiya's Desert Yellow and mix in enough light earth to tone down the yellow to a nearly beigey shade. Or you could use Floquil Mud and Light Earth similarly blended (contact me off-line and I'll send you a range of formulas).
You are basically correct: No manufacturer's Dunkel Gelb is really close enough to use (Humbrol and Testors are, IMHO, at least as bad as Tamiya). Most have way too much greeney muck to them, and none match the preserved samples I've seen.
