It's such a touchy subject as we delve further and further into what really tricks our minds to say "Hey that looks realistic!"
Before it was the frosty drybrushed edges with dark washes. Now we have all sorts of dust effects, paint chipping, rust tones, filters, oil streaking, dark hand prints and boot stamps, etc.
I know that I'm at a loss to even describe why a work from Adam Wilder or Mike Rinaldi jumps out at me versus what I can produce.
I think amongst us are real craftsmen with a fantastic eye for the tonal subtleties that escape my neanderthal brain. I think scale effect is one of these areas |
