Hi Chuck,
just my comments to Vallejo: the pigment is thick, but dillution should be 1:1 at least, better to use 2-3:1 < water/alcohol:paint, and as mentioned, few thin layers are better (again, as mentioned gives depth to the color, just try it). The advantage is that even if you are not particularly careful, the surface IS SUPER SMOOTH, it dries in worst case a minute, you have to paint 2-3 times, but overall by the time enamel dries, you'll be ready with acrylics too.
Important to unload your brush before touching the model, don't use brush previously used for oils/enamels and clean it every few minutes, as it will dry at the roots of the brush-hair and the brush won't last long.
I recommend it to try, and guess the properties of other acrylics will be similar.
